More important points for the world rankings

On Saturday, June 28, the G1 Austrian Open 2025 took place in Südstadt near Vienna. Over 400 athletes from 38 nations made this tournament a real event. There were no fewer than 53 athletes in the U30 women's category, in which our Anna competed.

Thanks to her good ranking position, Anna only started in the round of 32 after a walk-through. Lara Zabukovec from Slovenia did not pose much of a challenge. In the round of 16, Helena Silberhorn, a German athlete coached by the Austrian national coach, was waiting to defeat our Anna. However, the plan didn't work out and Anna went into the QF.

They then had a heated exchange of blows with Alan Yapark from Turkey, an excellent athlete. They lost this match, which could just as easily have gone the other way, by the narrowest of margins.

Just how good the Turkish player is is demonstrated by the fact that she subsequently defeated the world number 3 in the SF, Alejandra Higueros from Guatemala, and was only stopped in the final by the world number 1, Eva Sandersen.

The U30 class was peppered with top female athletes from all over the world, which made the Austrian Open a real challenge this year.

Anna finished in 5th place, gaining important points for the world rankings. The aim is to at least defend her current position (8th place) by the fall of 2026, and if possible improve by 1-2 places. That would be the ideal prerequisite for having any chance at all of winning a medal at the 2026 World Championships in Korea. So there is still a rocky road ahead.
